Place d’Armes: fine for a coffee, but the restaurants ringing it are tourist traps at 30% markup. Grand Ducal Palace tour: only open mid-July to early September, $17, mostly reproduction interiors — skip. The Christmas markets: perfectly pleasant but small; don’t build a trip around them. Rives de Clausen nightlife strip: was cool a decade ago, now mostly closed. Any restaurant on Rue du Cure. Kirchberg beyond MUDAM: an architecture study, not a destination.
What to do instead
Coffee at Konrad Cafe in the old town or Bloen Elefant in Bonnevoie. For history without the ticket, walk the free Wenzel Circular Path. For nightlife, cross to Grund and the bars around Rue Munster. For a palace-scale experience, day-trip to Vianden. For markets, the Saturday Glacismaart at Glacis is where locals shop, not tourists. For architecture, the modernist neighbourhood of Limpertsberg has better urbanism than Kirchberg's corporate campus.
