The stars

Mosconi in Grund holds two Michelin stars — northern Italian, tasting menu around $180, book two weeks ahead. La Cristallerie inside Hotel Le Place d’Armes has one star and does the best fine-dining view in the city. For contemporary Luxembourgish, Ma Langue Sourit in Oetrange is worth the 15-minute drive out for $110 tasting menus that outshine most of the in-city options.

Honest local food

Um Dierfgen in Ville Haute is the reliable spot for judd mat gaardebounen (smoked collar with broad beans) — around $22, no fuss. Brasserie Guillaume on Place Guillaume II does great steak-frites and stays open until midnight. In Grund, Scott's is a pub with genuinely good fish and chips. Skip anything on Rue de la Loge with a laminated menu in five languages.

Good to know

Do I need to book Michelin restaurants far ahead?+

For two-star Mosconi, 2-3 weeks. One-star places 4-7 days is usually fine except Saturday nights. Lunch is easier than dinner across the board.

What's the local dish worth trying?+

Judd mat gaardebounen — smoked pork neck with broad beans and boiled potatoes. It's genuinely the national dish and every traditional restaurant does it well.
