What Grund actually is
Grund sits in the Alzette valley directly below Ville Haute — you get there via the free Pfaffenthal panoramic lift, the funicular from Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg station, or a steep walk down the Montee du Grund. It's a preserved cluster of stone houses, the Neumunster Abbey (now a cultural centre), the Alzette running through it, and about eight decent restaurants and bars. Population under 1,000; feels like a village folded into a capital city.
Where to eat and drink
Scott's Pub is the expat institution — beer garden along the river, mediocre food, brilliant atmosphere. Bosso and Um Dierfgen do proper Luxembourgish plates (judd mat gaardebounen, gromperekichelcher) around $25-35 mains. The Neumunster abbey hosts summer jazz and free concerts in its cloisters. Best time to visit is 6-10pm any night from May to September; midday Grund is quiet to the point of empty.
