Luxembourg in Two Days: City Plus One Real Excursion

Day 1: Ville Haute, Grund, Kirchberg

Do the classic loop: Place Guillaume II at 9:00, Bock Casemates by 10:00, Chemin de la Corniche and down the Montée de Clausen steps into the Grund by lunch. Eat at Scott's on the Alzette (burgers around 20 euros) or Big Beer Company across the water. Afternoon: ride the free Pfaffenthal funicular up, then tram 1 to Kirchberg for Mudam and the Philharmonie exterior. Back in town by 18:00.

Dinner should be somewhere you’d remember. Am Tiirmschen in the Old Town does regional cooking in a vaulted room; mains 26-34 euros. If you want cheaper, the Rives de Clausen strip along Rue Émile Mousel has half a dozen options in a former brewery complex. Sleep in Ville Haute — Hotel Le Place d’Armes or the smaller Hotel Vauban are the two obvious picks.

Day 2: Vianden by bus

Take the 09:00 train from Gare to Ettelbruck (35 minutes), then bus 570 to Vianden (25 minutes). Vianden Castle opens at 10:00 — give it 90 minutes. Ride the chairlift up for the ridge view (7 euros return), then walk down through the woods to the Our river for lunch at Restaurant Bel Air or a simple gromperekichelcher stand. Afternoon: the Victor Hugo house is small but worth the 5 euros. Last bus back to Ettelbruck around 18:30. Sleep again in the city — moving hotels for one night isn’t worth it.
