A Long Weekend in Luxembourg: Three Days, Three Regions

Friday: land and do the capital

Land at Findel before noon if you can. Bus 16 into the city is free and takes 25 minutes. Drop bags in Ville Haute or Gare, then walk the Old Town: Palace, Cathedral, Place Guillaume II, and the Chemin de la Corniche before the light goes. Casemates if you have energy left; otherwise save them for a rainy morning. Dinner at Bouquet Garni (fine dining, book ahead, 90+ euros) or Brasserie Guillaume for oysters and steak on the square.

Sleep in Ville Haute so day 2 starts fast. Hotel Simoncini has art on the walls and rooms from about 160 euros; Le Royal is the bigger business option if you want a pool. Don’t stay near the airport for a long weekend — the tram/bus back and forth eats an hour a day.

Saturday: north to Vianden and Clervaux

Rent a car for this day only (Europcar at the station, roughly 70 euros). Drive to Vianden Castle for opening at 10:00, then continue 40 minutes north to Clervaux for the Family of Man photography exhibition inside the castle — a UNESCO Memory of the World document, and genuinely moving. Lunch in Clervaux at K Restaurant. Back to the city by 18:00, or sleep in Vianden at Hotel Heintz if you want a small-town evening.

Sunday: Moselle wine country

Drive 30 minutes east to Remich. Caves St Martin does tours at 10:00 and 14:00 (crémant tasting, 12 euros). Walk the riverside promenade, lunch at Restaurant du Pont with a view over Germany across the water, then drive up to Ehnen for the wine museum. Fly out from Findel in the evening — it's 30 minutes from Remich. If you’re staying an extra night, Mondorf-les-Bains and its thermal spa are 15 minutes south.
