Hollerich is where Luxembourg puts its emerging-arts energy. The Rotondes — two circular former railway workshops on Place des Rotondes — anchor a cultural complex with concerts, theater, and a genuinely good year-round restaurant/bar scene. Around it, the streets are mixed: warehouses being converted to lofts, a Chinese supermarket, kebab joints, and slowly appearing new restaurants and bars. It's the one neighborhood in the city where you can feel the change happening in real time. Rents are climbing but it's still cheaper than the plateau.

Stay here if you want good food, live music, and the least touristy vibe within a 10-minute walk of the station. Skip if you need pristine streetscapes — construction is ongoing and some blocks are ugly. The area east of Rue de Hollerich near Bouillon Hall food court is the current hotspot; west of Route d’Esch is more industrial and less interesting on foot.

Where to stay

Fewer hotels than you’d expect for the location — maybe eight, mostly business-oriented, on Rue de Hollerich and Rue des Bains. Expect $95-160 a night. Chains like Best Western sit alongside smaller design-forward hotels. Ask specifically about construction noise; whole blocks are being redeveloped. Rooms near Place des Rotondes are best for atmosphere; anything further west leans dull.

Getting there

Place des Rotondes is a 5-minute walk from Gare Centrale via Rue de Hollerich. Tram T1 has a stop at Rotondes, connecting to Hamilius (12 min) and Kirchberg (20 min). Buses 4, 6, and 12 pass through. From the airport, bus 16 to Hamilius then tram back down, about 35 minutes. Everything in Hollerich is walkable within 15 minutes.

Is Hollerich safe at night?

Yes, and safer than the immediate north side of Gare Centrale. Place des Rotondes and the streets around it are well-lit and used late into the evening thanks to the cultural center. Empty industrial blocks west of Route d’Esch feel deserted late but aren’t dangerous.

Can I walk to Ville Haute from Hollerich?

Yes, about 20 minutes uphill via the station and Pont Adolphe. Tram is faster (15 min door to door with the walk to the tram stop). Most people take the tram.
