Neudorf runs along Rue de Neudorf in a thin ribbon between wooded slopes and the river. It's one of the older non-plateau settlements — 17th-18th century core with modern housing pushed up the hillsides — and has a strong Portuguese community with the churrascarias, cafés, and grocery stores to match. The main visual interest is the way the valley walls close in, giving it an almost Alpine feel in places. Nothing dramatic to see; nothing dramatic ever happens.

Stay here for a village-in-the-city experience and prices below the plateau, if you have a car or don’t mind bus commutes for sightseeing. Skip if you’re only in Luxembourg for two nights — you’ll spend too long getting to and from the main sights. Excellent value if you want a Portuguese-food-focused stay; a Portuguese lunch in Neudorf runs $12-16 and rivals anything in Gare.

Where to stay

Only a small handful of hotels and B&Bs along Rue de Neudorf. Expect $100-150 a night. The area around the church on Rue de Neudorf is the historic core and most atmospheric. Look for anything with parking if driving, as street parking along the narrow valley road is challenging. Avoid rooms directly on the main street facing traffic; the valley amplifies road noise.

Getting there

Buses 25 and 29 connect Rue de Neudorf to Hamilius in about 15 minutes and to Kirchberg in 10 minutes. From Findel airport, bus 29 direct in about 12 minutes. From Gare Centrale, allow 20-25 minutes with a transfer. Walking to Kirchberg is 15-20 minutes uphill; walking to Ville Haute is 25-30 minutes with significant elevation gain via Clausen.
